DBE/D&I RESOURCES

The Brent Spence Bridge Project Team is Committed to Diversity and Inclusivity in Workforce and Business Engagement.

The Brent Spence Bridge Corridor (BSBC) project team wants to ensure this massive project benefits everyone and is reflective of the richly diverse region it will serve. As planning concludes and the real work begins, there will be continuous opportunities for businesses and individuals to become involved in this $3.6 billion project. From construction to catering, this transformative project requires a cast of thousands and will directly impact countless Greater Cincinnati businesses and workers.

The BSBC Project will follow the federal Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program and Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) requirements. These requirements are in place to promote fairness and equity in the awarding of government contracts and to provide opportunities for businesses owned by individuals who have traditionally been underrepresented in their industries. The DBE program is intended to promote a level playing field for small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, including minorities and women. D&I requirements aim to ensure that businesses working on federally funded transportation projects reflect the communities they serve, which helps create a more inclusive economy and promotes access to opportunities for all.

That said, it is the intent of the project team to do everything possible to go well beyond federal DBE and D&I requirements. The people who bring this transformation to life should hold up a mirror to the people it will serve for years to come. After all, D&I isn’t just about making things fair. It has been proven time and again that promoting diversity and inclusion leads to increased innovation, creativity, and problem-solving. A diverse workforce and diverse contractors bring unique perspectives and experiences — experiences that can lead to more effective and efficient results.

To make this happen, the project team has established a Diversity & Inclusion Outreach advisory committee to connect and engage with DBE and D&I-related companies. Over the course of the multi-year project, the committee members will attend related regional events, host networking events to connect these businesses with participating contractors, develop materials designed to help the process flow smoothly, and more.
